Happy New Year Everyone!
I trust that everyone enjoyed the holiday season, having good times with family and friends. We wish you and yours continued love, happiness, and prosperity in 2019!
The President’s Corner is a monthly feature designed to bring an overview of HABPsi’s projects, events and activities, share trending topics and integrate philosophies of psychology.
As the new 2019 president of HABPsi, I look forward to serving our organization and community. I will endeavor to bring fresh new ideas to stimulate, motivate, inspire moving forward in addressing the mental health needs in accordance with our culture, heritage and the mission of the National Association of Black Psychologists.
January 2019 to December 2019, commemorates the African American Quad-Centennial of the official arrival of the ship carrying the first enslaved people of African descent. Pastor Aswad Walker of the Houston Shrine of the Black Madonna Orthodox Christian Church, will share at our Members’ Brunch more about the 40Q and the role of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (1915 Founders of Black History Month) and what 40Q means. This will be a year of health, healing and transformation for people of African ancestry. Please brainstorm about a HABPsi theme for 2019 that can help focus our energies.
The Houston Association of Black Psychologists is seeking sponsors, underwriters, donors, and partners for our 2019 activities. Please bring your ideas, positive energy and participation to make things happen.
