Where the Girl Chefs Eat

Girl Power Tour with Rebecca Masson and Brandi Key

Curious to know where two of Houston’s top female chefs like to eat? Chef Brandi Key, the culinary director for Clark Cooper Concepts, oversees the menus at some of Houston’s top restaurants, including SaltAir Seafood, Coppa Osteria, Punk’s Simple Southern Food, and Ibiza Food & Wine. Pastry chef Rebecca Masson is the owner and Sugar Fairy-in-charge at Midtown’s Fluff Bake Bar. Read on to uncover their three favorite places to eat in Houston.

Lee’s Fried Chicken & Donuts

What you’re getting at Lee’s Fried Chicken and Donuts is right in its name. This Height’s favorite puts a new and delicious spin on foods that seem like polar opposites: fried chicken and donuts. The chicken is slowly prepared over three days and turned out in lightning speed. Try Lee’s fried chicken sandwich, or if you want something more decadent, opt for the double donut fried chicken sandwich. Then choose your dessert. Lee’s donuts are made daily in tasty flavors including blueberry cake with blueberry icing , and a donut with praline, bacon and caramel icing.

Address: 601 Heights Blvd.

Ginger & Fork

Delicious Cantonese food with amazing drinks was the vision of owner Mary Li when opening Ginger & Fork. Try the lightly fried Cantonese spicy squid, steamed seabass in a savory soybean sauce, and gai lan broccoli. You may also opt for the highly regarded bone brittle flounder. Choose a drink from the restaurant’s extensive wine and craft cocktail menu, and if the weather is nice, enjoy your meal in the restaurant’s expansive outdoor patio.

Aladdin Mediterranean Cuisine

Located at the corner of Montrose and Westheimer, Aladdin is a place where you can get authentic and delicious Mediterranean cuisine in a low-key atmosphere. The counter-service restaurant offers a variety of entrees, from fresh gyros to kabobs, and mezze, including hummus, stuffed grape leaves, and more. The best part: dinner combos are generous and cost around $10.
